Dual GLP-1 and glucagon receptor agonist

Reference compound — not available from Purity Peptides. Shown for research context.

Overview

Mazdutide is a dual GLP-1 and glucagon receptor agonist modelled on oxyntomodulin, a naturally occurring gut hormone with activity at both receptors. Originally discovered by Eli Lilly, it has been developed in China by Innovent Biologics, with a fatty-acid modification that extends its half-life for once-weekly use in clinical trials.

Phase 3 trials in Chinese adults — GLORY in obesity and DREAMS in type 2 diabetes — reported clinically meaningful reductions in body weight and glucose measures, along with reductions in liver fat. Based on these data, Chinese regulators approved mazdutide in 2025. It has not been approved by the FDA, EMA or ANVISA. Research interest focuses on how adding glucagon-receptor activity alters energy expenditure and hepatic metabolism compared with GLP-1 agonism alone. Our product is the research-grade reference compound for laboratory study.

Mechanism studied

  1. Mazdutide
  2. GLP-1R + GCGR
  3. Satiety & energy expenditure
  4. Weight & glucose endpoints

Mazdutide activates the GLP-1 receptor, enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion, slowing gastric emptying and reducing appetite via central pathways. Concurrent glucagon-receptor activation in the liver increases fatty-acid oxidation and may raise energy expenditure, contributing to reductions in liver fat and body weight. The GLP-1 component counterbalances the hyperglycaemic tendency of glucagon signalling. This design mirrors the dual pharmacology of endogenous oxyntomodulin while providing the stability needed for sustained receptor exposure in long-term studies.

FAQ

  • Mazdutide received regulatory approval in China in 2025 following the GLORY and DREAMS phase 3 programmes. It remains investigational in the United States, Europe and Brazil. Our product is a research-grade reference peptide for laboratory studies only.

  • Lyophilized Mazdutide is normally kept sealed at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Once reconstituted for laboratory work, aliquots are held at 2–8 °C for short-term use or frozen, avoiding repeated freeze–thaw. Follow the lot-specific guidance on the certificate of analysis.

  • Every lot of Mazdutide ships with a certificate of analysis reporting HPLC purity, mass-spectrometry identity against the expected molecular weight, appearance and lot number. Match the COA lot to the vial label and keep it with your experimental records.
